The Division of Academic Affairs and the Office of the Provost supports Commonwealth University in its academic mission.

Together with the deans and department chairs, the Office of the Provost guides the academic culture of the institution. Our goal is to support the faculty in their pursuit of excellence in teaching, scholarship and creative activity, and service to the university and their professions. Through that, faculty support students in reaching their academic potential. CU offers our students a wealth of opportunities in collaboration with our dedicated faculty.

Important Resources

The Commonwealth University Library System provides access to more than 450,000 volumes of books, bound periodicals, and government documents; 2 million microforms; 50,000 journals, magazines, and newspapers in both print and electronic format; and over 150 online databases. The building also has exhibit spaces and a University Archives and Special Collections Reading Room. Wireless computer access is available in all areas of the building.

Over the last few years, faculty at Commonwealth University have become increasingly concerned about the cost of course materials and have made various changes to their courses to help ease the burden on students. Faculty have used:

  • Inclusive Access: e-versions of commercially available textbooks that are available through BOLT and direct billed to students at the lowest possible cost
  • Open Educational Resources: course material that is freely available to download, share, and edit, available through sites such as OpenStax.org and the Open Textbook Library
  • University Store: Visit the university's book store for more information about textbooks and course material
  • Library Sources: Articles, eBooks, and videos available through each campuses' library.
  • Other freely available material online: YouTube videos, government websites and resources, etc.

Library Services University Libraries

The Center for Teaching and Learning facilitates dialogue among faculty on the art and science of university teaching; it provides support of teaching through center resources and programs. Programs and services are designed to encourage discussion and exchange of ideas, disseminate information, develop projects and conduct inquiries that enhance knowledge and practice of university instruction, stimulate and enable the development of effective strategies and technologies, provide new faculty with information and support, respond to faculty needs and promote a commitment to teaching excellence.

CTL has numerous teaching resources available to all faculty as an organization in Brightspace; we offer readings, videos, URL links, etc. on a variety of teaching topics. As a faculty member, you have been enrolled in the TALE organization; just search for TALE on your home page, pin it, and start exploring.
