Student Statement of Understanding

Commonwealth University Student Statement of Understanding

Commonwealth University (CU) continues to collaborate with the Pennsylvania Department of Health (PA DOH) to monitor any new public health risk or changes in public health guidance. This Student Statement of Understanding (SOU), also provided as a downloadable PDF, puts forth the requirements that provide the most successful pathway to assure the safety of the University community.

There may be situations or events that require a rapid response in compliance with the CU Emergency Operations Plan.  In the event of a public health concern or crisis, the following will apply:

  • Students contacted by the PA DOH, Student Health Services, Institutional Public Health Coordinator or other CU administrator via phone, email, text message or any other contact method must respond promptly and comply with their request for information or action.
  • If the PA DOH requires a student to leave a campus residence or class in order to protect the safety and well-being of the campus community at large, prompt response and compliance is expected.

Violation of these and other campus health and safety requirements may be subject to the following actions:

  • Formal charges related to violation of the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Loss of access to on-campus housing assignment.
  • Restrictions accessing academic applications and campus facilities as appropriate.

If you have questions or concerns regarding this SOU and its requirements, please contact Ms. Jessica Abernathy, Institutional Public Health Coordinator, at jma351@commonwealthu.edu.
