Sometimes, the goals of institutions align so perfectly it was like they were created for each other. Such is the case with Commonwealth University Accounting grads and Brown Plus, an "accounting and advisory firm providing attest, tax and advisory services across the Mid-Atlantic region."

Helen Badman became involved with Commonwealth University not only to capture new talent for her firm, Brown Plus, but also to help them connect their academics to real-world experiences. As an Employment Specialist, Badman attended a recent Accounting & Financial Services Expo and while on campus, spoke to students at a student Accounting Association meeting.

"Staying engaged with the university community allows me to identify and support emerging talent while sharing insights about what employers, including Brown Plus, look for and how to successfully transition from student to professional."

Badman says that the students she met showed genuine curiosity and enthusiasm about potential paths in public accounting, and was impressed by how well-prepared and engaged they were.

"Their insightful questions and genuine eagerness to learn about the accounting profession were truly inspiring," said Badman. "It was rewarding to know that our conversations helped them build confidence and a clearer sense of direction as they prepare to begin their careers."

Such interactions were proof to her of the success of the Accounting program at CU to help students develop both the technical and transferrable skills needed to be successful in the workplace.

"They listened carefully and followed up with meaningful conversations," said Badman. "What stood out to me was their professionalism and genuine enthusiasm - it’s clear that the program is helping them develop both technical skills and the soft skills that employers value."

Badman says that for her, it’s a rewarding partnership.

"Not only do you get to connect with the next generation of professionals, but you also gain fresh perspectives and energy from those interactions. It’s fulfilling and inspiring for you as well. Even small contributions of time can have a lasting impact."
