Employer of the Month: PA Game Commission

Pennsylvania Game Commission Environmental Education Specialist, Jake Smith recently visited several campuses of Commonwealth University and walked away with a look at how faculty and staff act as a partner with their students for career success.
“[Commonwealth University] offers environmental and wildlife-related degrees that directly relate to internships and employment with the PA Game Commission (PGC) [and] also has students interested in environmental justice and law enforcement, said Smith. “PGC has State Game Warden employment opportunities across Pennsylvania.”
To be fair, Smith’s visits aren’t always conventional and tend to have some extraordinary parts them. For example, during a recent visit to Mansfield, he and a State Game Warden were accompanied by a live, rescued red-tailed hawk as a way to demonstrate how unpredictable the day-to-day job duties can be. Smith said that he enjoyed meeting the students and faculty/staff and were pleased with their interest in employment opportunities with the agency. He said he definitely recommended recruiting students from Commonwealth University.
“The students asked a lot of questions [and] I especially appreciated how involved and happy the instructors were during our visits,” said Smith. “That seemed to impact how the students trusted and respected us.
