C&N Bank forges partnership with Commonwealth University to hire new grads.
C&N Bank wanted to strengthen their connection with the communities they served, while investing in the next generation of talent. Partnering with Commonwealth University's three campuses became an obvious choice.
"It allows us to engage with students early, provide meaningful career exposure, and build relationships that support both student success and our organization's long-term growth," said SVP of Talent Acquisition and Development Manager, Cody Bowen '05, a Psychology and HR Management major from Mansfield.
What Bowen has described as a "standout experience" started at a Career Connections Expo on the Mansfield campus, which led C&N Bank hosting a CU intern.
"By the end of the summer, we were proud to offer them a full-time role," said Bowen. "Watching that progression from initial introduction to becoming a valued team member has been especially meaningful.
Such a positive experience with Mansfield students led Bowen and his team to expand their recruiting to a Career Expo at Bloomsburg and a classroom presentation at Lock Haven. Bowen said that the students came dressed for success, were prepared for professional and meaningful interactions, asked thoughtful questions, and showed a genuine curiosity about potential career paths.
"What stood out most was the level of preparation, curiosity, and professionalism across both experiences. These events create opportunities to build meaningful relationships early, which can lead to internships and full-time hires. It's both a rewarding experience and a smart investment in your future workforce. If you're considering getting involved, it's well worth the time.
Bowen said he felt prepared after graduation, especially because of a required internship which allowed him to apply his academic knowledge in a real-world setting at C&N. He has remained with the company for over twenty years and now recruits fellow Mounties as well as Huskies and Bald Eagles.
"My education provided a strong foundation, [but] it was communication, relationship-building, and a willingness to be proactive that made the biggest difference early on," said Bowen. "I learned that asking thoughtful questions, being adaptable, and showing initiative can set you apart just as much as technical knowledge. Looking back, I wish I had recognized sooner how impactful those skills would be in shaping my career."
