When SEK CPA's & Advisors Talent Acquisition Specialist Laura Zeigler visited Commonwealth University for the recent Finance Career Expo, she was reminded why the firm continues to recruit Bloomsburg graduates year after year. With several members of the team already alumni of the accounting program, Zeigler says the connection is a natural fit.

"We find that the students who come from the Accounting program at Commonwealth University are very high caliber," she shared. "They bring the skills, professionalism, and work ethic we look for in new hires."

One highlight of her visit was the opportunity to connect with students outside of the expo, particularly through a presentation to the Accounting Club. "It was rewarding to provide students with insights into the industry and the many career opportunities available," Zeigler noted. "Their level of engagement and thoughtful questions made the experience even more meaningful."

Her impressions of the students at the event left her especially impressed. "The students are well polished and all seem to have a high maturity level," she said. "The most impressive thing is the audit class, which gives students real-world perspective on what completing an audit is actually like. That kind of preparation sets them apart."

Zeigler also encourages other employers and alumni to consider getting involved. "I would say to try at least one event to see the value," she explained. "It's especially effective that the expo is held while students are moving between classes—it allows you to reach a wider audience and even engage with students who are still deciding on their academic and career paths."

For SEK CPA's & Advisors, the experience reinforced what they already knew—Commonwealth University graduates bring both talent and readiness to the workplace.
