Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing -Theta Zeta Chapter has launched a new professional journal club.

The club was founded by faculty members Dr. Meghan Pontz and Dr. Allison Maloney with the inaugural student lead Wilson Sheker. The journal club aims to promote scholarly engagement, critical thinking, and evidence-based practice within the nursing profession.

Mentors Pontz and Maloney bring a wealth of expertise in psychiatric and clinical nursing, coupled with a passion for academic growth to the initiative.

“We are thrilled to be part of this initiative that will not only enhance our students' academic journeys but also strengthen the overall knowledge base in nursing,” said Pontz. “Through mentorship and collaboration, we aim to inspire the next generation of nurses to lead with evidence-based practice and compassion.”

The student-led journal club will offer monthly sessions on the latest research, with an emphasis on building critical analysis skills and applying findings to clinical practice. It serves as a platform for networking and professional development, providing nursing students and professionals with opportunities to collaborate on research and scholarly publications.

“The journal club provides an invaluable space for both intellectual and professional growth. It’s exciting to see how this will shape future leaders in nursing,” said Maloney.

This collaboration sets a foundation for the continued success of nursing students and professionals at Commonwealth University and strengthens the role of mentorship in advancing nursing scholarship.
