Jennifer Kobe ’11 attended two recent Career Connections Expos at Commonwealth University as part of her role with the Upper Merion Township Police Department Recruitment Committee.

Kobe knows Commonwealth well. She originally enrolled without declaring a major until she decided to pursue a Psychology degree.

Later, building on her interest in law enfocement, Kobe added a Criminal Justice minor. Her involvement in Greek Life, club volleyball, and her local involvement with Special Olympics allowed her to develop time management skills and a strong work ethic.

So when she returned to campus, Kobe wasn’t just looking for new hires - she also wanted to offer students guidance and share some of her 13 years of experience in the field of law enforcement.

“I was once in their shoes and as an alum, I can be more relatable because I know some of the classes and professors they currently have,” said Kobe who was impressed with the intentional nature of students’ questions and the vast array of organizations in which they were involved.

“It is a great opportunity to interact with the students having many different educational backgrounds,” said Kobe. “It gets the name of your agency or business out there to potential candidates once they graduate.”

After graduating from the police academy, Kobe obtained her MS in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Homeland Security and says that one thing she points out to students is the importance of being passionate about your career path. She said she appreciated that the events were well organized and provided the students with a variety of recruiters.
