I started college as a Pre-Med student, with an eye on being a Pediatrician. My second quarter at UGA had me scheduled for Chemistry, Calculus, and Physics — ugh. My 18-year-old brain wondered why I needed those classes to become a pediatrician! I immediately replaced Physics with a General Psychology class and never looked back. I initially thought I was interested in going the Clinical route, but soon found my calling to be Experimental Psychology, with an emphasis on human learning and sensation and perception. I never regretted changing my major!
Get involved and get to know your faculty! Take advantage of everything the department has to offer. The CU Psych department offers so many amazing opportunities for our majors, from being an active member of the Psych Association to completing a Practicum in a setting of your choice. The faculty are committed to helping you succeed. Get to know your fellow Psych majors also. Not only will you find like-minded individuals who share a love of Psychology, but your new best friend (or significant other!) could be sitting next to you in class! Also, don’t be in such a hurry to get your college career "done" and to "get out of here". For some, these are the best 4 years of your life — enjoy the ride, even if it’s a little bumpy along the way!
