During the final semester of Commonwealth University-Lock Haven's Master of Science in Athletic Training program, each student completes a semester-long immersive externship.

Shane Buchman, of Drums, completed his externship at Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina, an NCAA Division I program with a combined 19 men's and women's athletic teams.

Buchman's primary duties were with the baseball team, as well as men's soccer and softball.

Buchman provided care on and off the field for the teams, which included, rehabilitation program, evaluation of sports injuries, and focus on the overall well-being of the athletes. He also covered both practices and games for the baseball team, providing emergency care for the players and helping them to remain healthy.

Buchman also had the opportunity to create professional relationships with the athletic training staff, coaches, and players. He plans to begin his career with collegiate-level sports, primarily focusing on the Division I or Division II level.

"This experience and opportunity to work alongside such a hardworking athletic training staff, has been a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I could not be more excited and grateful to be a part of," Buchman said. "The time that I spent at Wofford College has opened my eyes to what it is actually like to work as a Division I athletic trainer. I have gained a lot of valuable knowledge and advice that I will carry through my entire career."
