As part of the Business and Professional Women/Pennsylvania (BPW/PA) District 6 food insecurity initiative, Wellsboro BPW executed a successful food drive to support students enrolled in the TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program at Commonwealth University-Mansfield.
Members collected nonperishable items and assembled generous food bundles, ensuring students have access to essentials as they work toward their academic goals. Wellsboro BPW treasurer, Colleen Jackson, assistant controller at CU-Mansfield, set the project up with TRIO and expedited delivery of the food donations to their staff.
The TRIO Student Support Services program is a federally funded initiative that assists first-generation college students, income-eligible students and students with disabilities. TRIO provides individualized academic guidance, tutoring, financial literacy support, career exploration, mentoring and workshops designed to help students persist through graduation. By reducing barriers, such as food insecurity, and strengthening support systems, TRIO empowers students to succeed both in and out of the classroom.
