The exhibition is being held April 6 – May 1, 2026, in the Loomis Gallery on the Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania - Mansfield campus in Allen Hall.Teachers entering the exhibition choose up to two of their students to submit one work each along with an artwork of their own. Both the teachers and students must write an artist statement on their work and a statement on their time with the teacher or student.Professor Emeritus, Dr. Mardi Whitehouse, began the tradition in 2015 and chose 'Master & Grasshopper' playfully after the Kung Fu martial arts film genre use of the grasshopper term in the 1970s to 1980s. At the time, Mardi served as Loomis Gallery Director and was head of the Art Education Program at Mansfield University. The first show was such a success that we decided to make it an annual event.This is the 11th year of the exhibition and placement awards are selected by the juror. This year, 1997 Mansfield University Alumna Tara Edmonds is jurying the exhibition. There are six awards; Best in Show, 1st Place, 2nd Place, 3rd Place, and two Honorable Mentions. About the Exhibition

Master & Grasshopper is an annual regional juried exhibition of high school art students showing alongside the work of their teachers. The exhibition is being held April 6 – May 1, 2026, in the Loomis Gallery on the Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania - Mansfield campus in Allen Hall.

Reception and Awards Ceremony

The Master & Grasshopper Exhibition 2026 Reception and Awards Ceremony will be held on Friday, May 1, 2026, from 6 to 8 pm at the Loomis Gallery.
