Concert: Guest Guitarist Kenneth Meyer

Guitarist Kenneth Meyer will perform at CU-Bloomsburg on Wednesday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m. in Carver Hall, K.S. Gross Auditorium.

He will give a masterclass on Thursday, Oct. 22, at 5 p.m. in Pettit Center for the Arts, Room 166.

Both events are free and open to the public.

Entering his 30th year as a college guitar professor, Meyer serves on the classical guitar faculties of Syracuse University, SUNY Potsdam, and Hamilton College. His book, Diatonic Arpeggios for Classical Guitar is published by Mel Bay and he holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Eastman School of Music.

Meyer's program at CU-Bloomsburg will include:

• Sunburst – Andrew York (b. 1958)

The Washington Post refers to Kenneth Meyer as “A thinking man’s guitarist – he focuses on the inner structure of a piece…and plays with impressive gravity and power.”   The Buffalo News has called his performances with the Buffalo Guitar Quartet, “Impeccably articulate with superb technique.”  

Since winning the national first prize at the MTNA Collegiate Artist Competition, Meyer continues to appear in recital, as a chamber musician, and soloist with orchestra in venues throughout North America, South America, Europe and Asia. His commitment to cultivate, perform and record the music of his generation’s leading composers has garnered awards from the Barlow Endowment, Argosy Foundation and the Hanson Institute for American Music.  

Past accomplishments include performances in Weill Recital Hall, Zankel Hall, the American Academy in Rome, and Yankee Stadium. Solo recitals in Romania, Hungary, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. Concerto appearances with the Niagara Symphony Orchestra, Syracuse Orchestra, Erie Chamber Orchestra, Seattle Modern Orchestra, and Long Island Philharmonic. Recordings for Innova, Albany, and Frameworks record labels, and a premiere recording of Andrew Waggoner’s Concerto for Guitar on Bridge records.
