The Human Resource Management Minor program helps students know how the human resource function performs a wide variety of duties and tasks to help organizations accomplish their strategic goals. The program prepares students for a career in HRM with adequate skills and competencies through studying HR professional activities.

Our HRM Minor is a SHRM Academically Aligned Program, which means that students enrolled in this program who are eligible may apply for the SHRM-CP certification exam, which provides them with a competitive advantage in the job market.  

At least 12 of the 18 credits must be earned at Commonwealth University. A minimum 2.5 cumulative average GPA must be achieved in the courses counted for the HRM Minor.

Courses and Curriculum

Human Resource Management Minor Requirements

  • 18 credits required for minor completion
  • Students should meet with their academic advisor each semester and use Degree Works to monitor their individual progress toward completion of the minor.

Minor Requirements

Student who complete the program will be able to:

  1. Communicate effectively using human resource management terms and concepts
  2. Develop behavioral, leadership, and people skills
  3. Evaluate legal, cultural, organizational, and business pressures as they apply to human resource management
  4. Identify and apply appropriate human resource management theories and analytics
  5. Think and act strategically and thoughtfully in a human resource management context
