Associate Professor
Commonwealth University's Geographic Information System certificate program will teach students to collect spatial data, develop technical mapping skills, apply basic visual design principles, use analytical industry-standard software, along with other interactive tools. This will enable students to make compelling, data-driven maps to solve real-world problems, and communicate the results to a wider audience.
Courses and Curriculum
Geographic Information Systems Certificate Requirements
- 12 credits required for certificate completion
- Students should meet with their academic advisor each semester and use Degree Works to monitor their individual progress toward completion of the certificate.
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate comprehension of fundamental concepts and practices of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and advances in Geospatial Information Science and Technology (GIS&T).
- Demonstrate proficiency in using GIS tools to collect data and create maps that are fit-for-purpose and effectively communicate information.
- Communicate project results in oral, written and graphic form.
