Associate Professor
Commonwealth University's Geographic Information System certificate program will teach students to collect spatial data, develop technical mapping skills, apply basic visual design principles, use analytical industry-standard software, along with other interactive tools. This will enable students to make compelling, data-driven maps to solve real-world problems, and communicate the results to a wider audience.
Courses and Curriculum
Geographic Information Systems Certificate Requirements
- 12 credits required for certificate completion
- Students should meet with their academic advisor each semester and use Degree Works to monitor their individual progress toward completion of the certificate.
- Comprehend fundamental concepts and practices of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and advances in Geospatial Information Science and Technology (GIS&T).
- Demonstrate proficiency in the use of GIS tools to collect data and create maps that are fit-for-purpose, effectively conveying information.
- Effectively communicate and present project results in oral, written and graphic form.
