Through the generosity of our alumni and faculty, we are fortunate to be able to offer scholarships and research funding to help defray costs for our Environmental, Geographical, and Geological Sciences majors. Many thanks for our donors' support!

Available Scholarships

This four-year award ($10,000 per year) is for an incoming first-year student with a record of outstanding academic achievement and has declared a major in environmental, geographical, and geological sciences. Students should submit a 300 to 500 word essay discussing the experiences that inspired their pursuit of this degree. Along with these minimum requirements, students must submit at least one letter of recommendation from a teacher, school administrator, or other mentor. The scholarship winner will be selected by the Physical and Environmental Sciences department.

Renewable through senior year contingent upon maintaining good standing in the university and local community, an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher, satisfactory progress toward the major, and submission of a yearly reflection letter to the foundation. This scholarship is for Secondary Education majors planning a career in teaching environmental, geographical, or geological sciences.

Applicants Must
  • be full-time students who will be juniors or seniors in semester of award payment
  • have been formally accepted into the teaching program
  • posses a minimum 3.0 grade point average
  • have indication of promise as a reliable member of the teaching profession
  • demonstrate financial need
  • pending donor’s availability, agree to attend the spring scholarship luncheon and reception with him or her

Please fill out a scholarship application (can be found in Banner) and return it to the Chairperson of the Department of K-12, Health and Physical Education, & Middle Level & Secondary Education.

This scholarship is for undergraduate Geosciences: Geology and EGGS: Professional Geology majors who attend an accredited summer Geologic field camp training program as part of their requirement for the Geology degree. (Students attending a Hydrogeologic, Environmental Geologic, or Earth Science field camp may not apply for this scholarship).

Applicants Must
  • possess a 3.0 GPA or higher in geology and supporting math/science courses required by the geology degree
  • have a positive recommendation by the geosciences faculty on the student's likelihood of successfully completing the geology degree and going on to be an asset to the geology profession
  • demonstrate financial need

This scholarship supports Geography and Planning majors with high academic achievement and demonstrated financial need.

This scholarship is for undergraduate Earth Science or Geosciences majors who are applying to an accredited summer field camp training program.

The White Fund provides support for
  • Geosciences student-faculty research expenses and student travel to conferences to present their research results
  • student conference attendance (even if the student is not presenting)
  • Geosciences class field trips (if departmental field trip funds are exhausted)
  • faculty research expendables and travel
  • low cost research equipment and software that cannot be purchased through the regular departmental budget or Academic Enhancement funds

  • Request funding to support one of the designated categories
  • Submit a completed White Fund application. (Please see your research advisor for an application)

Applications should be filled out in consultation with your research advisor and submitted to the Chairperson, Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences.

Other Information

Selection is made by the department budget committee and applications are accepted year-round, depending on the availability of funds.
