Commonwealth University's Computer Science minor requires students to complete the first two Java programming classes and at least 11 additional elective credits from the Computer Science major as explained in this proposal and the minor map. There is also a pathway for students to complete the Computer Science minor by taking the first Java programming class, two Python Programming classes and 9 additional credits from the Computer Science major. The second pathway will be attractive to students who take Python Programming, e.g. Mathematics and Digital Forensics majors.

Courses and Curriculum

Computer Science Minor Requirements

  • 19 credits required for minor completion
  • Students should meet with their academic advisor each semester and use Degree Works to monitor their individual progress toward completion of the minor.

Minor Requirements

  • Analyze a complex computing problem and apply principles of computing and other relevant disciplines to identify solutions.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate a computing-based solution to meet a given set of computing requirements in the context of computer science.
  • Apply computer science theory and software development fundamentals to produce computing-based solutions.
