The Child Welfare minor introduces students to issues specific to children and families, from developmental, environmental, and social work perspectives. It is an appropriate minor for any student who will be working in roles that involve protecting vulnerable children.

Courses and Curriculum

The following are the Student Learning Outcomes for the Child Welfare Minor.

  1. The curriculum is designed to introduce students to basic knowledge skills and abilities required to work with or recognize issues surrounding vulnerable children and families. 
  2. Learners will be able to describe process of assessment, intervention, and evaluation of practice with vulnerable children and families. 
  3. Learners will be able to explain how professional values and ethics influence the decision-making process in child
