Dr. Polhill has been a member of the mathematics faculty at Commonwealth University for 27 years and previously served as Assistant Dean of the College of Science and Technology. He has taught over 30 different classes in his tenure at CU, with Calculus 1 and 2, Abstract Algebra, and Coding Theory and Cryptology among his favorites.

Dr. Polhill studies a mathematical structure known as a partial difference set, which has applications in radar technology and digital communications. During his 2022–2023 sabbatical, he held the Robert Edwin Gaines Chair in Mathematics at the University of Richmond.
