Police Academy Admissions

If you're looking to make a meaningful difference in your community, begin the process of consideration for acceptance into the Mansfield Act 120 Municipal Police Academy through these easy steps. Mansfield’s full-time academy begins in May and concludes in November annually.

  1. Apply

    Admissions Requirements
    • Must be 18 years of age or older.
    • Possess a high school diploma or GED Equivalency.
    • Must be a citizen of the United States.
    • Must be free from convictions of disqualifying criminal offenses.
      • Conviction - an adjudication of guilt including the imposition of a sentence.
        • Disqualifying criminal offense – a criminal offense for which more than 1 year in prison can be imposed as punishment.
    • Possess a valid drivers license.
    • Successfully pass a physical, psychological, reading, & fitness test.

  2. Health Forms

    Physical Examination, Drug Screen, and Physical Fitness Form

    Complete the Physical Examination, Drug Screen, and Physical Fitness forms signed by a physician. The Vision form is only required if the physician does not complete vision information on the Physical Examination form.

    Psychological Evaluation Form

    Complete the Psychological Evaluation form signed by a licensed psychologist. A list of local psychologist who are available to provide the evaluation are available by request.

    Pre-Test Release Form

    Complete the Pre-Test Release form and indicate your emergency contact.

    All forms, along with supporting information, are available in the Registration Packet that is sent to candidates who've completed the application to the Academy

  3. Registration Packet

    In addition to the required health forms, all information in the registration packet must be completed. This includes:

    • Confidential Inquiry Forms
    • Driving Record
    • PA Criminal History
    • Birth Certificate copy
    • High School Diploma or Transcripts or GED copy
    • Driver’s License copy
    • Standard Release Form
    • Eligibility to Carry
  4. Testing and Interview

    Reading and Fitness Testing

    All academy entrants must pass the Nelson-Denny Reading Test at the 9th grade level and must pass the Cooper Fitness Standards at the 30th percentile.

    The physical training test will consist of four separate tests:

    • 300 meter run
    • Sit-ups
    • Push-ups
    • 1.5 mile run

    Applicants are required to reach the 30th percentile for their gender/age for entrance into the Academy. A copy of the Cooper Fitness standards is included in the packet provided to applicants.

    Interview

    An interview with Academy staff is required as part of the application process. Interviews are held between March and May of the year leading up to the start of the Academy.

    Once you have successfully completed the reading and fitness test, your interview with Academy staff will be scheduled.

  5. Acceptance

    If you are selected to join the upcoming class of cadets, a formal acceptance will be sent along with additional information to get you started. Tuition and any associated fees must be paid prior to the start of the Academy.
