Courses and Curriculum

An individual with a bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college, who earned an undergraduate grade point average of at least 2.8 on a 4.0 scale, may apply for admission to the AI for Professional Practice certificate. Admission requirements include:

  • A completed application form for graduate studies at Commonwealth University
  • $35 application fee
  • Official transcripts from all undergraduate institutions attended
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Current resume
  • A one to two-page essay describing the applicant's interest in AI for Professional Practice

International applicants must complete a separate application form for the Office of Graduate Studies and Research and must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). A minimum score of 570 on the TOEFL is required for admission to the program.

AI for Professional Practice Certificate Requirements

  • 12 credits required for certificate completion
  • Students should meet with their academic advisor each semester and use Degree Works to monitor their individual progress toward completion of the certificate.

  Certificate Progress: Enrolled students can review program requirements and track progress toward certificate completion using the university’s degree audit and advising tool, Degree Works.

Upon completion of this certificate, students will be able to:

  1. Define key artificial intelligence concepts and terminology.
  2. Identify common professional use cases for AI technologies.
  3. Apply prompting strategies to generate useful AI outputs.
  4. Evaluate AI tools, chatbots, and agents for professional tasks.
  5. Recognize ethical considerations related to AI use.
