Social Work (Minor)

Social Work Minor Requirements

• 18 credits required for minor completion
• Students should meet with their academic advisor each semester and use Degree Works to monitor their individual progress toward completion of the minor.

Minor Requirements

Upon successful completion of this program, social work minors will be able to:

1. Demonstrate an understanding of the history, mission, and values of the social work profession, including core concepts such as person-in-environment, strengths-based perspectives, and social justice.
2. Describe the core components of the generalist practice model including engagement, assessment, intervention, and evaluation and the ways in which this model is used to advocate for equitable and socially just outcomes.
3. Identify and apply the NASW Code of Ethics to basic practice scenarios, demonstrating beginning-level ethical reasoning and awareness of professional boundaries.
4. Explain how culture, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, ability, and other identities shape client experiences, access to resources, and interactions with systems.
