This graduate assistantship position (GA) will assist our recruitment team in reaching targeted enrollment goals. The GA can expect to participate in a variety of strategic enrollment management initiatives and will serve an integral role in the Office of Admissions.

At the completion of their 1-year tenure, the GA will have an in-depth understanding of daily admissions operations, recruitment activities, social media marketing, and content development. Throughout the course of the year, the GA will acquire detailed knowledge of the recruitment cycle from both a strategic and tactical level, gaining insight into how we use the recruitment “funnel” and apply data in the decision-making process. Responsibilities
The Graduate Assistant for Baseball is the primary assistant on the coaching staff. This position is for a student that wishes to coach college baseball as a career upon the completion of their degree. The responsibilities serve as a foundation for a future as a college pitching coach. This graduate assistant will be teaching and implementing the BU pitching plan. Through that plan, the graduate student will define and manage the structure of the pitching staff’s training from August until May. During the academic year this graduate student will be directly responsible for the development of 17-20 student-athletes who comprise the pitching staff. He will participate in recruiting and all decisions (including scholarship) relating to the pitching staff.

• Ability to work 20 hours a week for the entire year.
• Must be present for all games and practices.
• Must have played college baseball at a competitive level at the position of pitcher, or have pitched at the professional level with an affiliated organization.
• The candidate must submit, in writing, a philosophical statement outlining what they believe about pitching. That statement should have a vision for the staff as well as a plan to execute their vision.
The graduate student cannot coach summer baseball.

They will also participate in the collection, analysis, and assessment of data specific to the weight room activities for the student-athlete. They will be primarily responsible for programming and overseeing multiple varsity teams and their performance in the weight room and during field sessions. The Marketing and Communications graduate assistant works with the Office of Marketing and Communications (MarComm) staff on implementation of strategic marketing initiatives to elevate Commonwealth University’s reputation, manage the brand, leverage the legacy brands of Bloomsburg, Lock Haven, and Mansfield, and support strategic enrollment and student success initiatives to recruit and retain students. The MarComm graduate assistant will function as a member of the MarComm team and will serve as an ambassador of Commonwealth University and each of our locations. The New Student Orientation Graduate Assistant is responsible for the support of undergraduate student leaders known as Husky Orientation Welcome Leaders (HOWLs). This includes assisting with the selection, training, and development of the HOWLs. The NSO GA also provides support and leadership within the logistical operations related to all orientation events throughout the year. In addition, the individual in this role will play a key role in the planning and execution of a variety of initiatives geared towards building a stronger relationship between the university and the new students’ parents/supporters.

Additional Information

  • Graduate Assistantships are open to all regularly admitted students pursuing a Master's or Doctoral degree. There are a varying number of assistantships available with each graduate program and in particular departments/offices across the University. Positions are awarded by the Assistant Vice President and Dean of Graduate Studies and Research upon the recommendation of the Graduate Program Coordinators or GA supervisors.
  • Students are granted assistantships for one semester at a time. The appointment and continuation of an assistantship will depend upon good academic standing (minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 prior to appointment and in each semester of appointment), favorable evaluation by the faculty supervising the assistantship and recommendation of the Graduate Program Coordinator. Graduate students who have an assistantship in one program/office are not eligible for an assistantship in a second program/office.
  • BU assistantships are either half-time (20 hours per week) or quarter-time (10 hours per week) and students are required to work 15 weeks in the Fall and Spring semesters, and 12 weeks in the Summer semester. Quarter-time assistants must carry a minimum of nine (9) graduate credits and half time GA’s are required to carry a minimum of six (6). Both quarter and half-time assistantships provide a six (6) credit tuition waiver per semester [non PA residents pay out-of-state tuition and fees]. The waiver does not include undergraduate prerequisite courses, activity fees, health fees, student union fees, recreational fees, or any other charges incurred.
