As announced earlier this morning, Commonwealth University - Lock Haven will be closed today, September 3, 2026 due to heavy rainfall overnight and resulting impacts throughout the county and on campus. Essential employees are expected to report to campus.
Per the university’s Inclement Weather Policy, in-person instruction and extracurricular activities at the Lock Haven campus are cancelled. Online courses may continue as scheduled.
Today’s Faculty & Staff Welcome Back Luncheon is cancelled. While unfortunate as we all look forward to celebrating the new academic year together, your safety is our priority.
Today’s Lock Haven Local Assembly meeting is cancelled. University Senate leadership will announce a reschedule for a later date.
The following student services will be open and operating as normal:
- Residential on-campus dining, including Starbucks
- Glennon Health Center
- Stevenson library
- Student Recreation Center
The Lock Haven Police Department continues to be available for campus safety and security needs 24/7.
Please be mindful of potential travel restrictions off-campus as Clinton County manages several areas throughout the county that were hardest-hit by overnight rain and flooding.
A sincere appreciation to all of our essential employees and Facilities Management staff who are working to maintain services to our students and prepare campus for reopening tomorrow.

In the event of inclement weather or other emergency conditions, the operational status of Commonwealth University, including potential compressed schedules or campus closures, will be determined using our established policy. Commonwealth University has a system for communicating emergency information to the campus community. The AT&T Rave system is designed to send text, voice and email messages to compatible devices in the event of an emergency situation.
